There are many things you can do at home to build an understanding of mathematics at a very early age through play. I do not believe in “hot housing” children and teaching them processes but rather allowing them to play and allowing them to build their own relationships with numbers and size will support their mathematics in later years. There are core concepts in mathematics that can be built through activities at home (see the blog for some suggestions) and can be incorporated in everyday activities but if you are looking for some ideas for learning through play here are some ideas:

I love the Early Learning Centre and I have many of these products in my own home. As part of play children are able to acquire learning and build understanding.

There are many different activities and games that can help develop mathematics. If you have any other ideas then email us so we can share them. In the main it is about children engaging in their environment and interacting with their environment. Maths and number is all around us so have a look at the ideas in the blog for some everyday activities.
